United Way of Clinton County, Iowa Launches Campaign | Local News

CLINTON – The United Way of Clinton County, Iowa kicked off this year’s campaign at the LumberKings game at NelsonCorp Field on August 3, with a donation from the Insurance Group and the West Bend Mutual Insurance Company for $ 1,000 , as part of the LumberKings’ Home Run Motivation.

This event marked the start of the United Way campaign in the Clinton County area.

The campaign’s goal for the year 2021-2022 helps support 17 agencies that provide essential programs to children and adults in the Clinton County area. Each program supports at least one of Centraide’s three main pillars: education, health and wellness, and financial stability. Agencies funded by this year’s campaign donations include:

Agencies are urged to submit funding allocation requests to Centraide in July. United Way volunteers on the Citizen Review Committee read each application, meet with agency leaders, and help make important decisions about annual allocations. Agencies depend in part on United Way funding each year to achieve the goals and objectives identified in the funding requests.

Brent Albrechtsen is leading the United Way campaign this year with first assistant Bob DeBorde. Donations to this year’s campaign are vitally important, according to Albrechtsen, as the campaign failed to meet the goal of $ 650,000 last year in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When businesses and industries shut down in response to the pandemic, it became difficult to achieve our goal,” Albrechtsen said, adding that “it has a huge effect on programs that depend on funding each year. Despite difficult times, we know the Clinton community will come together to support the local agencies that provide so much help and assistance to those in need in the Clinton County area. There is a great need in the region and we also know that there is enormous generosity in this community and people who want to help and make a difference. Your donation can do that and help us reach this year’s goal.

Bryce Albrechtsen, acting director of the agency, is assisting Centraide this year. A long-time United Way volunteer, Bryce took over as head of the organization after Greg Voss resigned this summer. The father-son team is committed to the mission, vision and values of Centraide and its role in helping community programs.

“Fork Some Pork,” one of the United Way’s major fundraisers, was canceled this year and last year due to uncertainty over the COVID pandemic.
