The story is once again similar to the Tonya Harding-Nancy Kerrigan incident, except this time it takes place on one of the most important women’s football teams in the world.
Paris Saint-Germain player and France coach Aminata Diallo was taken into police custody on Wednesday morning as part of a police investigation into the assault on her teammate, Kheira Hamraoui, by masked men on November 4.
The club confirmed in a statement that Diallo had been taken into custody, but refrained from identifying the teammate who was assaulted or characterizing Diallo’s potential involvement.
“Paris Saint-Germain can confirm that Aminata Diallo was taken into custody this morning by the Prefecture of Police of Versailles as part of the procedure opened following an assault on players of the club last Thursday evening .
“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest terms the violence committed.
Paris Saint-Germain is working with the Versailles police to clarify the facts. The Club is closely monitoring the progress of the procedure and will study the follow-up to be given. “

Details of the attack, which were first published by French sports daily L’Equipe, prompted Hamraoui to return home with her teammate Diallo after a team dinner. The car was reportedly stopped by two men, who forced the women out of the car and attacked Hamraoui with a metal bar, targeting his legs.
The leg injuries – which would have been bruises and cuts, but not cuts – do not put his career at risk, but they forced Hamraoui to withdraw from a UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid on Tuesday . It was Diallo who took his place in midfield and PSG won 4-0.
It’s a story that strangely follows the storyline of the one that rocked the world of figure skating in 1994: star skater Nancy Kerrigan was assaulted by a man, who hit her knee with a baton. The plot was orchestrated by Harding’s ex-husband, and injuries forced Kerrigan out of the US figure skating championships, which Harding won to make the Olympic team. Kerrigan recovered and joined her at the Olympics.
Diallo was not directly linked to the attack other than the arrest. Diallo and Hamraoui are in direct competition for a starting place with PSG, although both started in midfield in a Women’s Division I game on October 31.
Diallo, 26, joined PSG in 2016 and returned this summer from back-to-back loans with the Utah Royals in the NWSL and Atletico Madrid in Spain. Hamraoui, a 31-year-old former French international, recently joined PSG this summer from Barcelona.
Following the incident, PSG said they were offering additional security to their players: “Since Thursday evening, the club has taken all necessary measures to ensure the health, well-being and safety of all players. his female team, “the statement read.
The president of the French Football Federation, Noël Le Graet, issued a statement pending the results of the investigation:
“I do not know more than you for the moment”, we can read in the press release published by L’Equipe. “But what is suspected is unlikely. I know both players. I would be shocked if what is suggested is true. It would seem unimaginable. I am still very surprised and look forward to the results of the investigation.
