Rezoning of the Glenthorne employment area on public display | Manning River Hours

news, local news,

A plan to rezone rural land between Manning River Drive and Glenthorne Road in Taree South for commercial and industrial use is on display for public comment. The proposal involves the rezoning of rural land east of Manning River Drive for a commercial / industrial zone which will be divided into 3.5 hectares for commercial zoning and 13.7 hectares for industrial zoning with access plans via Glenthorne Road at the existing roundabout at Manning River Drive and future plans to have an access road from Manning River Drive west to the site. “The Glenthorne employment area planning proposal will provide a new commercial and industrial district at the southern entrance to Taree,” said Gerard Tuckerman, interim director of land use planning for the MidCoast Council. “Since this is the busiest road to Taree, we want to hear what the community thinks about the proposal.” There is also a draft Development Control Plan (DCP) accompanying this proposal with associated environmental corridors to ensure that key habitats and stream areas are preserved and enhanced. The DCP is also included so that development occurs with a high level of approval of the Taree Gateway and to ensure that orderly development occurs, Tuckerman said. It is expected that, if the zoning change is approved, the first development of the site will be a gas station.
