Men’s basketball team Ferris survives overtime

GREAT RAPIDS – It was an undefeated NCAA Division II men’s power battle with Ferris (4-0) winning in overtime 85-73 over Ashland (2-1) on Saturday.

Ferris was leading 35-30 at half-time but trailed in the second half and was tied 81-81 after 40 minutes. The Bulldogs won 14-2 in overtime.

The 2018 national championship team was honored and a mural saluting the team was dedicated at halftime.

The mural showcases the Bulldogs National Championship team and was installed last summer with support from The Schuberg Agency and Auto Owners Insurance.


Walt Kelser had 26 points and eight rebounds for Ferris while Logan Ryan followed with 14 points and nine rebounds and Dorian Aluyi had 13 points and six rebounds. Ben Davidson had nine points off the bench. Jimmy Scholler added eight points.

Ferris was 31 of 60 off the ground for 52%.

“People are starting to come out and look at us,” said Ferris coach Andy Bronkema. “We have a good group of young men who selflessly play basketball. “

Brandon Haraway had 20 points for Ashland.

Ferris plays Findlay on Tuesday.

QUINCY, Ill .– The Ferris women’s basketball team erupted for a 72-32 triumph over McKendree, Ill. In regional action on Saturday, concluding the Quincy Classic with a perfect score in Quincy, Ill.

The Bulldogs won their fourth straight game despite falling 16-12 at the end of the first period. FSU activated him in second, beating McKendree 19-4 in the period, en route to the halftime lead.

Senior guard Adrienne Anderson and rookie Kadyn Blanchard led a balanced Bulldog offense with 11 points apiece. Freshman Mya Hiram added 10 points off the bench.

Ellie Dykstra had a 10 board record for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will host Ursuline for their home opener on Tuesday, November 23 at FSU’s Jim Wink Arena. The departure is set at 5:30 p.m.
