Meet the woman with one leg who set a Guinness World Record for 104 marathons in 104 days

Running a marathon is an impressive achievement for anyone. One woman took that feat to a whole new level when she ran 104 marathons in 104 days, all with a prosthetic leg.

Jacky Hunt-Broersma is a mother of two living in Arizona. She lost her left leg to Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in 2001.

After the operation, she discovered that running was an incredible way to accept her body and be proud of what she could do. She told ESPN,

His running hobby has expanded over the years to “ultra running,” covering longer distances than a traditional marathon. She has a 240-mile ultra race in Utah scheduled for later this year.

But first, she set out to break the previous Guinness World Record for running marathons on consecutive days. You know, for fun.

Well, not just for fun. Jacky is naturally passionate about supporting amputee runners. A special prosthesis is needed to run, and the cost can be prohibitive.

So, as part of her challenge, Jacky raised funds for Amputee Blade Runners. She told ESPN,

Here in the US racing blades are very expensive and health insurance doesn’t cover them, they consider it a luxury. So I thought it would be a great way to raise money for charity and it would be a great way to give back.

Each day of her challenge, she shared an image on her Instagram account, tallying up the number of marathons she had run so far.

Of course, she’s won a lot of fans, with over 52,000 followers cheering on her journey.

It’s no wonder Jacky’s story has garnered international attention. Her perseverance, courage and determination are an inspiration to anyone trying to “do the hard stuff” like she does.

Jacky, good luck with your next ultra race! We will encourage you!
