Library card registration month
Help us celebrate Library Card Enrollment Month. Sign up for a new library card during the month of September to enter a raffle for a new Kindle e-reader or a new Samsung tablet. Existing cardholders earn one entry for every five books they view, throughout the month. There is no limit on the number of raffle entries you can win. Monthly library card registration prizes are donated by the Friends of Newton Public Library.

Watch this virtual program from home. August 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting the right to vote to women. In this program, historian Kathy Wilson explores why women had to fight for decades for the right to vote, why black and minority women were excluded from the national suffrage movement, and why we still fight today. for women’s rights. This virtual program will take place on Zoom and requires registration to be viewed. There will be no in-person program. Adult Take & Make Craft: Book Page Apple
Kits available for pickup September 20-27
Create your own 3D book page at home! Craftsmen will need to provide an exacto knife or scissors and brush, all other materials will be provided in the craft kit. Registration is strongly encouraged to reserve a craft kit. Registration opens September 13. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. This DIY kit is best suited for adults 18 and over.
Legends and traditions of the lumberjack

Watch this virtual program from home. Join paranormal expert Chad Lewis for an exploration of lumberjack traditions. From Paul Bunyan to Hodag, this program is packed with lore, superstitions and lumberjack legends. Filled with great stories of mysterious creatures lurking in the woods, boasting of supernatural feats and every thread told in between, this program celebrates our history as a Midwestern lumberjack. Borrow a WIFI Hotspot!
Did you know that the library lends WIFI hotspots? Hotspots can be used by Newton residents aged 18 and over with a valid Newton Public Library card. Hotspots are available for seven days and can be renewed up to two times, if no one else is expecting one. To borrow a hotspot, go to the library’s lending counter with your library card and photo ID. You will also need to have a current and working email address on file in the library. Questions?
