How have things changed in your business over the past two years?

The evolution of technology streamlines the loan process and facilitates document exchange. Previously, buyers had to get in their car and bring documents to us at the office. Now they can submit them electronically using their mobile phone. It’s easier and faster than ever.

Voluntarily board a helicopter. The first and only time I did it we had an engine failure and we barely survived. I have a private pilot’s license and will fly all day in airplanes, but not helicopters.

How have things changed in your business over the past two years?

I started my electronics design business in February 2020. For the past six months I’ve been trying out in-person services, which has been a nice change of pace! However, E-Design will always hold a special place in my heart, so I only allow a minimal number of in-person projects on my schedule.

PATRICK McNAIR

Stanley Martin Home Builder of the Year

OWhat would you like everyone to know about your business?

We are proud of what we do. In our company, there are contracts, deadlines, inspections, etc. that get a lot of attention, but the key is not to lose sight of the experience and the human aspect of building a house. We build family homes, dream homes and first time buyers. Building a home is a big responsibility and we take it seriously as a community builder here in upstate.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

The people. Both our clients and our team. I especially love seeing our team members grow and succeed every day. We have a great culture here. Our team enjoys coming to work every day, and it makes the workplace both productive and like a united family. This culture is reflected on our customers to help them have the same exceptional experience. Building a home is an experience, not just a transaction.

How have things changed in your business over the past two years?

Growing interest and demand for our great upstate region! Nationally, people are discovering what many of us knew: how great the Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson areas are. We have the perfect home for families, great work opportunities, great features and amenities for active adults, and so much more! This growth has allowed us to double the size of our team and promote talented people.

What is one thing you will never do again?

Eat blood sausage in a small Caribbean restaurant. I’m an adventurer and love learning about different foods, cultures and countries. Traveling and having a real cultural experience wherever I go is one of my favorite activities. But it was a first and last experience with blood sausage. The good news is that the rest of the food was great!

What would surprise us about you?

I was a two-time state champion and undefeated starting pitcher for my college high school baseball team. Baseball is a passion in my life and always has been. I currently coach my sons in baseball and love taking them to Drive games! My youngest son, Maddox, is named after Greg Maddux, my favorite player growing up.

Emilie Raines

Dan Ryan Builders Professional Woman in Construction of the Year

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about your business?

I want everyone to know about the opportunities that are available in the home building industry. There are job opportunities in land management, purchasing, finance, construction management, sales and marketing. These opportunities are available for many levels of experience and training. I encourage everyone to explore career opportunities in this industry.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

I love making the dream of home ownership a reality for so many upstate families. It’s amazing to play an active role in transforming a land into a community where individuals and families create memories and thrive. Building the American Dream by building homes is the culmination of what I do.

How have things changed in your business over the past two years?

The growth of our business/industry over the past two years has been incredible. I have seen the Greenville area grow and become a very desirable place to live. I have also seen more and more women take on leadership roles in our company. This has been an inspiration to me as I continually seek to develop my career.

What is one thing you will never do again?

I will never intentionally put my career above my family. I was guilty of being a workaholic early in my career. Although it has benefited me professionally, personally my family has made sacrifices. Now I do everything in my power to put my family first. A healthy work-life balance is vital! I will drop everything I do to be present and listen to my family.

What would surprise us about you?

I am a small town girl who grew up on a pumpkin farm in Laurens County. I grew up seeing my parents working very hard to make a good life for me and my sisters. The hard work and dedication they instilled in me motivates me to give my best every day!

YOUNG ROB

Heritage Custom Builders Renovator of the Year

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about your business?

Building and remodeling new homes isn’t just about ‘sticks and bricks’, it’s about ‘people and processes’. We not only thrive on a relationship level, but we have found that our approach and commitment to our process is what sets us apart from other builders.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

How our customers buy into our process and truly value their experience. The connection with our team is incredible. More than a third of my business goes to clients for their second or third project.

How have things changed in your business over the past two years?

The complexity of the designs and the wide range of new products are demanding. We’ve been in Greenville for almost 30 years and have seen our business approach and processes, and the industry as a whole, change dramatically in the last 10 years alone.

What is one thing you will never do again?

I’m at a stage in my career where we can align with customers who appreciate great design, expect unparalleled service and quality.

What would surprise us about you?

I take what I do very seriously, but I love the opportunity to dust off my tool belt and jump in with one of my crews and have fun. I have some of the best employees I have ever had and I really enjoy being “one of the guys” for a day. They’re probably rolling their eyes, but I still love carpentry!
