“Discover is committed to promoting inclusivity, authenticity and alliance among our employees,” said Carlos Minetti, president of consumer banking and executive sponsor of PRIDE, the employee resource group that focuses on Discover’s LGBTQ+ community at Discover. “While more work needs to be done, employee surveys show that Discover creates an environment where people from diverse backgrounds can achieve success and treat each other with dignity and respect.”

Discover has nine Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which play an important role in upholding Discover’s pillars of maintaining a diverse, fair and inclusive workplace. ERGs contribute to each pillar by providing access, opportunity and exposure to our diverse employee populations. PRIDE is Discover’s LGBTQ+ community-focused employee resource group. The PRIDE Group helps lead the marketing efforts behind the design of Discover’s rainbow card, known as the Discover it® Pride Card. These efforts led to a 26% year-over-year increase in Pride cards issued in 2021 compared to 2020.

Discover has a long history of creating and promoting LGBTQ+ inclusive practices in the workplace and in society, including:

  • Encourage employees to add their personal pronouns to their signatures to raise awareness of the value of pronouns and open the door to conversations
  • Support employees making gender transitions by creating a gender transition toolkit, transition advocacy group, and transgender and gender non-binary training through the DE&I team
  • Partnered with GenderCool to review policies and practices to design equitable non-binary gender and transgender programs
  • Removal of the $75,000 lifetime cap on gender transition coverage for employees enrolled in a Discover medical plan

“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers – from the factory floor to the corporate office, in big cities and small towns – could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live authentically,” said Jay Brown, Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training, Human Rights Campaign. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index has paved the way for this reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there’s still more to do, which is why we’re once again raising the bar to create fairer workplaces and a brighter future for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere. »
